After buying a new Gateway X4 9.5ghz computer with 8 gig of RAM I noticed it wasn't running as smooth as some of my older PCs. I'm an author, videographer and video editor and now and then I also like to play a game but my new FAST computer would play videos and games jerky and when I would write I had to wait for the characters to appear on the screen. I checked my TSRs and discovered a program called "Smarcopy.exe" by Northstar was running constantly using up a huge portion of my CPU. I tried to figure out what it was good for and who put it there without any success so I removed it from my startup programs. My computer smoothed out, my games actually work now and and I don't have to wait for the letters to appear when I type. I have no idea what this program is good for. The amount of problems it caused was large enough I expected to find an answer on the Internet so I searched. I found pages of people talking about computer problems and this file name was listed but so were a lot of others. Not one explanation of what smartcopy was good for or how it came to be in my computer. What is it? Is it malware? Is it a Trojan? I have no idea but I know my computer actually runs correctly now without it.
